As of 2007, 13.0 million U.S. households (11.1% of all households)—home to 36.2 million Americans—experienced food insecurity at some time during the past year. More data

Age: One out of 6 children (16.9%) in the U.S. lived in households reporting food insecurity. More data

Race and Ethnicity: In 2007, food insecurity was experienced by 7.9% of non-Hispanic white households but by 20.1% and 22.2%, respectively, of Hispanic and non-Hispanic black households. More data

Income: In 2007, among households with an income less than the Federal poverty threshold, about one out of three (37.7%) had food insecurity. More data

Education: Whereas food insecurity existed in 25.8% of households in which no one was identified with a high school education (or equivalent), food insecurity affected only 4.1% of households in which someone had obtained a college degree or higher. More data

Household Characteristics: The lowest prevalence of food insecurity existed in households with no children and two or more adults and households with elderly residents. More data
